GSOC Week 6: Enhancements to the ECEB App Based on User Study ( LibreHealth )

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another weekly update on my Google Summer of Code (GSOC) project with LibreHealth. In this blog post, I will share the progress I've made during week 6 on enhancing the Essential Care for Every Baby (ECEB) mobile application based on the user study conducted.

To recap, the ECEB app is a mobile application developed by LibreHealth, aimed at providing essential information and resources for newborn care to healthcare professionals in resource-limited settings. The app is designed to improve the quality of care and reduce neonatal mortality rates.

During the past week, my focus has been on revamping the application based on the user study and implementing changes based on mentor feedback.

The user study, as provided in the form of papers and presentations, involved feedback from healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, who work in various healthcare settings. The study provides insights into the usability and effectiveness of the ECEB app in supporting their work. Through surveys, interviews, and usability testing, I gained valuable feedback on the app's strengths and areas for improvement.

Based on the findings, I identified several key enhancements to the ECEB app in terms of design which is still under various changes weekly with continuous discussions with mentors and the design team in the scrum call:

User Interface (UI) Improvements: One of the common blockers is always the need for a more intuitive and user-friendly interface. To address this, I have worked on refining the app's UI by simplifying the layout, improving the visibility of important elements, and ensuring a consistent design language throughout the app which is undergoing changes , for addressing this major issue a lot of previous iterations of application need to be looked upon and analyze papers presented by the mentors plus the previous work. The project's main focus from the very start is to better the current application both in terms of design and usability.

Coding and Agile : The project follows up on the principle of agile which is been followed throughout the weeks by working on issues on GitLab and following an end-to-end workflow
I have also addressed user usability issues, such as improving error handling, refining user feedback mechanisms, and enhancing the app's overall stability.

In the upcoming weeks, I will continue to implement various other enhancements and continuous further usability improvements with the help of mentors and design team reviews to ensure the changes positively impact the user experience. The feedback and insights gathered continue to be instrumental in guiding the direction of the project, making the ECEB app more effective and beneficial for healthcare professionals.

That wraps up this week's update on my GSOC project. I am excited about the progress made so far and look forward to further refining the ECEB app to support healthcare professionals in providing essential care for every baby. As always, I am grateful for the guidance and support from the LibreHealth community throughout this journey.

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks as we work towards improving neonatal care through the ECEB mobile application. Thank you for reading, and see you soon!
